2026 Jeep Gladiator vs Wrangler in South Jersey

Same Jeep DNA, two different tools. The Gladiator is the pickup with a five-foot bed and serious towing; the Wrangler is the smaller, lower-priced SUV with more engine choices. Both are Trail Rated, and Lucas CDJR sells both. Here is how to pick.

Quick take

The Short Version

2026 Gladiator

The truck of the family. A five-foot steel bed, up to 7,700 lb of towing, and open-bed hauling the Wrangler can't match. Best if you tow, haul, or work.

2026 Wrangler

The original icon. Lower entry price, a two-door option, more engine choices, and a smaller footprint. Best if you want an affordable, nimble open-air 4x4.

Both share the same rugged foundation: removable doors, a fold-down windshield, standard four-wheel drive, solid Dana axles, and available Trail Rated capability. Neither is a downgrade — they are built for different jobs, and plenty of South Jersey drivers cross-shop them at our Cherry Hill-area showroom.

Advantages

Where the Gladiator Wins

Towing and hauling. Properly equipped, the Gladiator tows up to 7,700 lb, roughly double the Wrangler's typical 3,500 lb (the four-door Wrangler Rubicon with the turbo-four tops out around 5,000 lb). If you pull a boat, camper, or UTV trailer, this is decisive.

A real truck bed. The five-foot steel bed hauls mulch, lumber, dirt bikes, and gear outside the cabin — something no Wrangler can do. Available maximum 4x4 payload reaches 1,720 lb.

Top-end ground clearance. The Mojave clears up to 11.6 inches, the most of any Gladiator and a touch more than the Wrangler's 11.1-inch maximum.

Where the Wrangler Wins

Lower price and a two-door option. The Wrangler starts at $36,035 for the two-door and $39,040 for the four-door, giving a more affordable way into the Jeep 4x4 world than the Gladiator's $39,820 start. The Gladiator only comes as a four-door crew cab.

More engine choices. The Wrangler offers the 3.6L V6, an available 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder, and a limited V8, versus the Gladiator's single V6. That means options for more low-end torque or a different balance of power and efficiency.

Smaller and more nimble. At 166.8 inches (two-door) or 188.4 inches (four-door), the Wrangler is far shorter than the 218-inch Gladiator, so it parks easier, turns tighter, and threads narrow trails more readily, while offering enclosed cargo space of up to 72.4 cubic feet in the four-door.

Bottom line

Which One Is Right for You?

Choose the Gladiator if you tow a trailer or boat, need to haul dirty or oversized cargo in an open bed, or want the most capable Jeep pickup for work and recreation around South Jersey.

Choose the Wrangler if you want the lowest way into a Jeep 4x4, prefer a two-door or a smaller footprint for tight trails and easy parking, want a choice of engines, or don't need a truck bed. Either way you get the same open-air Jeep character. Compare the full lineup on the Gladiator trims page, or browse the full Jeep lineup at Lucas CDJR.

Questions

Gladiator vs Wrangler FAQs

What is the difference between the Jeep Gladiator and Wrangler?

The Gladiator is a midsize pickup with a five-foot steel bed and a four-door crew cab, built for towing and hauling. The Wrangler is an SUV offered in two-door or four-door body styles with no bed. They share the same Jeep 4x4 foundation, removable doors and roof, and Trail Rated capability, but the Gladiator adds truck utility while the Wrangler stays smaller and more affordable.

Does the Gladiator or Wrangler tow more?

The Gladiator tows more. Properly equipped, it is rated up to 7,700 pounds, while most Wranglers max out around 3,500 pounds, or up to 5,000 pounds for a four-door Rubicon with the turbocharged four-cylinder. If towing is a priority, the Gladiator is the clear choice.

Which is cheaper, the Gladiator or Wrangler?

The Wrangler is cheaper to start. The two-door Wrangler begins at $36,035 and the four-door at $39,040, while the Gladiator starts at $39,820. All prices exclude destination and fees, and the dealer sets the final price.

Should I buy a Gladiator or a Wrangler?

Buy the Gladiator if you tow, haul, or want an open truck bed. Buy the Wrangler if you want a lower price, a two-door option, a choice of engines, or a smaller, more maneuverable 4x4. Both deliver the same open-air Jeep experience, so the right pick comes down to whether you need a truck bed and heavy towing.
